"Tehya"

Tehya,
Golden Retriever born on July 13, 2009
"Tehya" means "beautiful in the Zuni language. "Zuni" was the name of Heather's last service dog who passed away December of 2008 and who Tehya will be following in the footsteps of once fully service trained.
Tehya has been going to work daily with Heather in a classroom for children who are on the autism spectrum. She is currently learning her manners and her basic skills, and the students are helping her learn. They train with her as much as possible, with the goal that she will then learn to help them. As the students work with Tehya, they must speak so that she understands them, they must interact, and they need to follow a teaching routine, which is the easy part for them! This is a win/win situation in the classroom. Tehya was donated by Tom and Vonnie Schaffer, parents of one of the students in Tehya's class.
